Brightwater Retirement Community Built to Withstand Disaster

<< Back

As the fire that tore through Myrtle Beach yesterday continued to rage, Brightwater residents and employees could rest assured that the community, which is scheduled to open on Tuesday April 28, 2009, was safe even after their evacuation was mandated.

The new all-inclusive, luxury retirement community located off International Drive near Carolina Forest was constructed to withstand these types of fires as well as hurricanes. Brightwater's steel and concrete construction is resistant to heat and fire, has a non-combustible metal roof and double-pane windows minimize heat transfer to the building interiors. In addition, sprinkler systems are located throughout the community, which is surrounded by multiple ponds.

In addition to the disaster preparedness of the construction, several features of Brightwater separate the retirement community from others in the area. These include the ability of both independent and assisted living residents to bring pets, onsite therapy provided by Genesis Rehab services, and the opportunity to participate in a holistic wellness program designed to keep residents living independently for longer.
